China Mobile Likely To Buy Rights To Rebroadcast Olympic Games

SCCBD (BEIJING)--SinoCast China Business Daily News via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge reports Zhou Yi, head of the Olympics Division of China Mobile, said they are looking at rebroadcasting the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games via mobile phones. This will be the first time the international Olympics organizing committee sell such rights to the new media, including mobile phone and Internet companies. Zhou did not reveal the specific capital the company will spend on the right, but he said that the price the committee fixed was even higher than the CCTV costs to broadcast the Olympics through TV. Zhou also stated that China Mobile was set to achieve the video hookup via the 3G network and likely to adopt High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technology in order to guarantee the operations when users watch TV via mobile phones.
