Beijing Government Preparing To Rehearse Olympics Traffic Control In August
CD (XINHUA)--On 5 July 2007, the China Daily reports sources from the Beijing Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games state that the city government of Beijing endorsed a plan to rehearse traffic control measures. A spokesman with Beijing's Road Traffic Management Bureau said the move likely will speed up traffic in urban areas and cause little inconvenience as students will be on summer holiday and the working population can take public transport instead of driving. Beijing's auto fleet increases to 1,000 vehicles daily with the total number is likely expected to top 3.3 million by August next year for the Olympic Games. The municipal government subsidized public transport a large amount this year as well as slashed the average bus fare from 1 yuan (equal to about 13 US cents) to 0.4 yuan.
