Global Positioning Satellites Likely To Be Used For Ensuring Food Safety At The 2008 Beijing Olympics

IHT (BEIJING)--On 6 August 2007, the International Herald Tribune states China will likely use global positioning satellites (GPSs) to ensure food safety at the Beijing Olympics and will step up efforts to blacklist manufacturers who violate safety standards. Olympic Committee member Wan Wei states a system will monitor food production, processing factories, and food hygiene during the 2008 Summer Games. The whole processes from start of production through transportation and tracking of the food transportation vehicles will be done by GPSs. These developments occur after 429 exporters have been blacklisted and punished for producing dangerously substandard products.
