Beijing Prepares For Power Demand During Olympics

XN (BEIJING)-- On 7 August 2007, Xinhuanet through the Beijing2008.com web site states the the construction of power networks advanced to ensure a stable electricity supply during the 2008 Olympic Games as the demand is likely to hit a record level. According to North China Power Grid (NCPG), up to 15 million kilowatts is expected to be used during the Olympics event. NCPG invested USD 2.3 billion (17.2 billion yuan) in power grid construction and rebuilding projects since last year, with construction of nine 500 kv transformer substations around Beijing scheduled to be completed before August next year. The large thermal power projects under construction include LNG overall project of Fujian (Putian, Jinjiang and Xiamen gas-fired power plant), Longyan Kengkou, Quanzhou Nanpu, Ningde Datang, Huaneng Phase III, Fuzhou Kemen, Fuzhou Jiangyin, Zhangzhou Houshi Power Plant Phase III and Xiamen Songyu Power Plant Phase II; the hydroelectric projects include Youxi Jiemian Power Station, Ningde Hongkou Power Station and Xianyou pumped storage projects.
